| The names of Boris Christoff, Nicolai Ghiaurov, Nicola Ghiuselev, Julian Konstantinov, and Nicola Nicolov are among the singers who make lengthy introductions on the subject of Bulgarian male voices unnecessary. |

| The Men’s choir was formed in 1971 by its musical director, Zdravko Mihaylov, from members of the Mixed Choir and other solo voices from the opera. In order to achieve the flexibility and homogeneity required by choral singing, a choir does not ordinarily raise great voices. However, one of the particular features of this choir, different to other male choral groups in Bulgaria, is that it is made up exclusively of authentic soloists, who today still participate individually in recitals of classical music, or lend their support, this time as choral singers, to performances of grand operas (Simon Boccanegra, Fidelio, William Tell, Flying Dutchman…). |

Zdravko Mihaylov’s undeniable achievement is that over the years he has been able to give this collection of solo voices a homogeneity worthy of the most famous choirs. Other particular features of this Men’s Choir is that it has opened its repertoire to the sacred music of the Orthodox Church and to traditional Bulgarian music.
